The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update patches your Photoshop installation to the most current version.

Photoshop by Adobe is the de facto standard for graphics editing on computers and other devices. The 7.0 version was the most ambitious iteration to date. It provided more tools and took better advantage of modern hardware than ever before. Such a massive undertaking was bound to have some bugs and performance issues, and it did. The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update aims to fix those problems.

The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update is an essential update and a massive patch. It includes many new fixes as well as all of the hotfixes that were released prior to this update. By installing it, you’ll bring your 7.0 installation in line with the 7.0.1 version. Although there was a lot of focus on glaring bugs—such as scaling problems and issues with JPEG metadata, which we’ll discuss more momentarily—Adobe put a great deal of emphasis on security and stability as well.

All of the known security vulnerabilities that cropped up after release of Adobe Photoshop 7 are closed by this patch. That means that you’re less at risk locally using Photoshop and when connecting to remote servers. The stability updates are aimed at fixing some rare but annoying crashes as well as improving consistent performance across a much greater range of hardware configurations. The update also includes many performance improvements, such as better 64-bit performance across the board and accelerated performance when opening multiple windows, such as when restoring a saved state.

There were many bug fixes as well. There are too many too list them all here, but there are some notable fixes, such as Photoshop now storing JPEG metadata correctly. The application now scales correctly across all contexts. There’s much better compatibility and support for QuarkXPress, and Photoshop 7 now behaves like earlier versions in some key areas. Alpha transparencies in Targa files are saved as they used to be, and total ink once again defaults to 300 percent.
